USS Tarawa at Macquarie Wharf on May 11, 2008. She is looking a bit the worse for wear after more than six months on deployment. She is the oldest of the large amphibious assault ships in the USN and she is expected to decommission after she returns to the USA. She has 35 helicopters embarked including CH-53E Super Stallions, CH-46E Sea Knights , AH-1W Hueycobras, and UH-1N Iroquois. She also has 6 AV-8B Harriers on board.
